Product Introduction
DESU® PS SD is produced via a spray-drying process that partially gelatinizes starch granules to balance adhesive and disintegrant properties. The partial pregelatinization retains the native amylose inside ungelatinized granules for rapid water-induced swelling and disintegration, while the released amylopectin provides natural binding force during tableting. It supports streamlined formulation workflows by reducing the need for additional binders, superdisintegrants or lubricants, and its low water activity makes it suitable for moisture-sensitive active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
Product Feature
-
Excellent blending uniformity for low-dose formulations
-
Optimized flowability for consistent die filling in tableting and capsule filling
-
Superior compressibility for high-quality tablet formation
-
Partial water solubility for flexible process adaptation
-
Low water activity to protect moisture-sensitive APIs
- Self-lubricating property to reduce lubricant usage
- Reliable disintegration performance in oral solid dosage forms
Product Application
DESU® PS SD is widely applied in direct compression processes for vitamins, traditional Chinese medicine extracts and conventional chemical APIs, especially for low-dose formulations where content uniformity is critical. It is also a preferred excipient for moisture-sensitive drugs, as its compatibility with dry granulation and direct compression eliminates water exposure during manufacturing. For capsule formulations, its good flowability ensures stable filling performance in high-speed encapsulation lines. It can also be used in orodispersible tablets and dispersible tablets to achieve rapid in-mouth or in-vitro disintegration, and serves as a functional filler-binder in wet granulation when required.
