As a proven inert core, DESU^® Sugar Spheres provide a smooth, rounded substrate for drug layering, sustained‑release coating, enteric coating, or simultaneous coating of API and matrix polymer. Their consistent sphericity, tight particle‑size distribution and batch‑to‑batch uniformity make them an ideal starting material for multiparticulate pellet formulations, enabling reproducible drug‑load and predictable release profiles.

Product Application

DESU^® Sugar Spheres are primarily used as inert starter cores in oral capsule and tablet formulations, particularly in multiparticulate sustained‑release and enteric‑coated pellet systems. In a typical process, the drug is either layered onto the spheres and then sealed with a release‑modifying polymer, or co‑coated with the API and a matrix polymer in a single step. This architecture allows the active ingredient to be released over an extended period via diffusion through the polymer membrane or controlled erosion of the coating layer. Because different APIs can be coated onto separate batches of spheres with distinct protective polymer layers, complex multi‑drug regimens can be combined within a single dosage unit. Beyond modified‑release therapeutics, DESU^® Sugar Spheres are also suitable for chewable and confectionery applications that require a neutral, spherical sugar‑based carrier.
