RHEOL^® HP55S is specifically engineered for pharmaceutical applications requiring higher viscosity. It performs reliably in organic solvent coating systems and maintains good compatibility with APIs. By leveraging its unique physicochemical properties, it ensures that coated formulations remain stable in the stomach and dissolve appropriately in the intestinal environment. It is also suitable for sustained and controlled-release matrix materials. Since 1971, HPMCP has been widely used as an enteric coating cellulose derivative in the pharmaceutical industry.

Product Application

RHEOL^® HP55S is mainly used as an enteric coating material where a high-viscosity polymer is required to form a robust, flexible film that withstands the mechanical stresses of gastrointestinal transit. This coating provides a reliable barrier in the acidic stomach, protecting sensitive drugs and only dissolving when exposed to a pH above 5.5 in the intestines. Furthermore, its higher molecular weight makes it particularly suitable for sustained and controlled-release matrix materials, where it significantly slows down the erosion rate and extends the drug release profile. It is also applicable in the production of capsule shells, offering formulators a high-performance option for pH-dependent drug delivery systems.
