Product Introduction

Westpoint RHEOL^® HPC​ is a high-purity hydroxypropyl cellulose developed from the perspective of pharmaceutical formulation. As a non-ionic cellulose ether, it dissolves in water and many polar organic solvents, delivering excellent thermoplasticity, cohesion, and film-forming capability. RHEOL® HPC is available in multiple viscosity grades, enabling formulators to select the right balance of adhesion, swelling, and gelation for their specific dosage forms. Low-viscosity grades perform strongly as tablet binders and film-coating formers, while high-viscosity grades serve as hydrophilic gel matrix materials for sustained-release preparations.

Product Application

RHEOL^® HPC is widely used in pharmaceutical solid oral dosage forms as a binder and disintegrant for immediate-release tablets, delivering strong tablet hardness with rapid disintegration. High-viscosity grades function as hydrophilic gel matrix materials for sustained-release tablets and pellets, controlling drug release through hydration-driven gel-layer formation. It also serves as a film-coating agent, producing transparent, flexible coatings that protect APIs from moisture, oxygen, and light without requiring additional plasticizers. In orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs), its rapid swelling enables fast oral dispersion with a pleasant mouthfeel. Additionally, RHEOL^® HPC acts as a thickener, suspending agent, and stabilizer in pharmaceutical liquid and semi-solid formulations, such as oral suspensions and topical gels.
